Minimum Basic Wages Up 2.5% in Hospitality Sector
The lowest-paid tourism and catering workers will receive higher wages as of August, as the minimum basic wage will rise by 2.5%, according to the consensus between employers and trade unions in the sector Monday, 20 August. Any other wage hikes in the sector will meanwhile be discussed before 3 September.

Upper Chamber Presents Alternative Higher Education Resolution
A working group of the National Council, the parliament's upper chamber, presented on Monday, 20 August an alternative draft to the disputed resolution on the national higher education programme for 2007-2010, which is in parliamentary procedure.

Villa Rustica to be Become Archaeological Park
The remains of a Roman villa in the Gorenjsko village of Mosnje (NW) are to be preserved with an abatement wall, the supervisory board of the Slovenian Motorway Company (DARS) decided after being assured that the area will be preserved as an archaeological park, public broadcaster RTV Slovenija has said.

Government Adopts Programme on Education of Unemployed
The government adopted on Thursday, 23 August the programme on education of the unemployed for the 2007-2008 academic year. According to the Labour, the Family and Social Affairs Minister Marjeta Cotman, the programme is aimed at providing the unemployed with formal education and improving their employability.
