D4PACK PROJECT

20/06/2024. The D4PACK project has started. With an overall budget of about 2 million euros, cofinanced by the Interreg Central EU programme, it aims at supporting the agri-food SMEs in their transition towards more sustainable packaging solutions.

D4pack involves eight partners, CEVI – Confindustria Verona, Lukasiewicz Research Network – Lódz Institute of Technology, Campden BRI Hungary Ltd, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia – Chamber of Agricultural and Food Enterprises, Krakow University of Economics, Innoskart Business Development Nonprofit Ltd, PROMA-PACK Ltd, Federation of the Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic, from five European countries who will be working together for two and half years.

Thanks to the cooperation among the partners, D4PACK will develop a decision-support system tool to help companies in assessing the impact of the adoption of new packaging in their production layout, taking into account technical, environmental, legal, economic and social aspects of such change.

A new Technology Transfer Services (TTS) approach will help agri-food SMEs efficiently choose the most suitable packaging solution and conduct innovation risk self-diagnosis in the perspective of packaging reconfiguration. This TTS, conceived as a transnational, integrated, multidisciplinary knowledge pool, is implemented through a business rationale in which each decision-making step (technical, legal, economic, environmental, and social) is coupled with an innovation-specific risk assessment framework (risks associated with switching to a new packaging solution). In this way it is possible to concretely help companies and stakeholders to fully grasp every implication related to industrial reconfiguration and to decipher the real sustainability of new packaging solutions in their production layout.
